National Design Registration | Maximum Term 15 Years

Initial Term

When a design is first registered It is registered for an initial 5 year term commencing from the original filing date.


Extension of Term

A design registration can be renewed for a further two consecutive 5 year terms during the last six months of the relevant term of registration providing a maximum possible term of registration of 15 years from the original filing date.


Late Renewal and Risks

The renewal fee can be paid up to a maximum of 6 months after it falls due (the renewal grace period)  but must be accompanied by a late fee.


Please note there is a risk associated with a late renewal and it is recommended that renewal is paid good time before it falls due.
